Ski racing places great physical demands on an
athlete's body. Therefore, an intense conditioning program directed
toward enhancing
performance and protecting against injury is essential.
The fall
trimester includes conditioning training five days per week,
which includes weight training in Rowmark's state
of the art on-campus
gym, as well as biking, hiking, roller and ice hockey, flexibility,
coordination/quickness, intervals, and plyometrics. Dryland
continues throughout the winter. Trainers develop summer workout
schedules
and consult with athletes by phone and correspondence during
these months.

SPORTS NUTRITION, PREVENTATIVE MEDICINE, INJURY AND REHABILITATION
Rowmark's principal resources in health-related matters are the University
of Utah Medical Center and Sports Medicine Clinic, the Rosenberg-Cooley
Clinic, and The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital (TOSH). Here we have several
close relationships with doctors and therapists in specialized fields
including orthopedics, internal medicine and sports nutrition. As
examples, Dr. Vern Cooley, MD, is a world renowned Orthopedic Surgeon
whose patients include several current and former U.S. Ski Team athletes
and other professional athletes including several NFL and NBA athletes as
well as Tiger Woods. Also Claudia Wilson, MS, RD, CD, a Sports
Nutritionist and Clinical Dietician, is active in advising our athletes
with specific nutritional goals.
